The focal points in teaching are the training of students undertaking teacher training in mathematics and didactic of mathematics for primary and secondary school education, as well as the supervision of teaching internships in the context of practical experience at a school, and the supervision of teaching-learning research projects during the internship semester.

The focal points in research are the professionalisation of mathematics teaching staff, in particular the theory and evidence-based conception of relevant offers for advanced training and further education on the basis of a design-based research approach, as well as the measurement of effects, the influence of so-called beliefs about teaching and learning mathematics, and the cognitive psychological aspects of the acquisition of mathematical concepts.
